Mitts and more mitts
I love fingerless gloves/mitts/wristwarmers what ever you might want to call them. Easy to slip on and still have fingers free. They have to be long enough so there is no gap for nasty draughts to inveigle into but not so long as they become a chore to try and put on.
Oh, and knitted flat. Always, knitted flat. I have a very bad relationship with dpns and have tried "magic" loop. Individually dpns are probably quite nice. Two of them together work perfectly for I-cord. But beyond two, they are evil sticks with minds of their own which usually get flung across the room by round 2. And magic loop? I am well into Muggle territory with magic loop.
I could (and should) practice and then the wondrous world of small circumference knitting would miraculously open before me.
But until then, I will knit flat. I started with Forro Wristers from a wonderful book Simply Shetland Lace (available from Auckland Libraries!) knitted in 4 Seasons Entwine 8 ply. Pure wool, soft and squishy - but more chunky than a normal double knit.
Then I had a play - and came up with my own pattern - which I've called Kawakawa. Now I just have to work out how to write down a pattern than someone else might be able to follow - eek!
