Endpaper
So, I've been meaning to find some projects for the various (!) Vintage Purls Christmas boxes I have lurking around.
So here's Endpaper, a gorgeous teally blue 6-ply sport from Vintage Purls. Not sure why I ended up going down the Gansey route, but it's a pattern mix I've had on my mind for a while - and Endpaper seemed perfect. Not quite absolutely perfect, but more of that later.
Inspiration and some stitch patterns from The Great Gansey by Kalliopi Aro and further stitches from The Gansey Knitting Sourcebook.
I used 4mm needles, but in hindsight 3.75 may have given slightly better stitch definition - albeit with a bit less drape.
4 stitches on either side make up the I-cord edging, giving you 60 central stitches to play around. So you can do whatever stitches you want in the middle - just repeat the 4 edge stitches throughout.
I-Cord Edging
Every RS Row K4, [pattern 60 stitiches], K4
Every WS Row Slip 3 stitches wyif, Purl 1, [pattern 60 stitiches], P1, Slip 3 Stitches wyif
It helps to give a little tug on the 1st Knit stitch on each RS row and on the P1 after slipping the 1st three stitches on the WS row just to keep the I-cord neat.
The Pattern
CO 68 stitches
Garter Stitch Base

Continue with I-cord edging at beginning and end of each row and 60 pattern in between.
